Why Does Vimeo Keep Logging Me Out or Say My Account Is Locked? Causes and Fixes

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Why does Vimeo keep logging you out?

The Help Center pages read for this guide describe no fixed timer that logs a personal Vimeo account out. They do describe a handful of situations that look like being logged out from your side of the screen: a temporary lock after repeated wrong passwords, a reset email or 2FA code that never arrives, session rules set by an Enterprise admin, and an account that Vimeo has deactivated. No page read describes location-based or new-device security prompts for personal accounts, so this guide does not describe any. Unless a surface is named, the paths below are for vimeo.com in a browser.

What does Vimeo name as the cause, and what should you do?

What you seeCause named by the Help Center (read 3 October 2026)What to do
Account temporarily lockedToo many wrong passwords. The lock clears after about 15 minutes, and every attempt during the lock restarts the 15 minutesStop retrying and wait. Resetting the password does not shorten it
Reset email never arrivesThe email goes only to the account's primary login emailCheck the address, then spam, then request again
Reset link does not workSeveral reset emails were requestedClick only the most recent one
2FA code does not arriveYour email program may mark Vimeo's messages as spam or refuse themAllow @vimeo.com as a safe sender and request a new code; contact Vimeo if it persists
Signed out of a team account at set times, or all at onceAn Enterprise Admin or Owner can set session duration or force a logoutLog in again, using SSO if your organisation has enabled it, and ask your admin about the setting
Access error when logging into a WorkspaceThe Organization member is not assigned to a WorkspaceAn Organization Owner, Organization Admin or Workspace Admin must assign you; clear browser cache and cookies and try again
Message saying the account is deactivatedThe account may have breached the Terms of Service or the GuidelinesSearch your inbox for Vimeo's email, then appeal if you think it was a mistake
Access lost after switching off or changing an Apple private relay addressVimeo only holds the relay address. Its page warns that if you change it on Apple's side before updating your Vimeo email, you may lose access without any way of recoveryUpdate the email on Vimeo first, before touching the relay on Apple's side

One more case concerns sign-up rather than login. Vimeo says it uses a CAPTCHA to protect the site from spam, abuse and bots. If creating an account fails, its page says to disconnect from any VPN or proxy network and try the sign-up page again. Follow that instruction if you see it.

When two accounts share one browser profile

A website keeps you signed in with cookies, and Chrome's Help page says that if you delete cookies you may get signed out of sites that remember you. Chromium keeps cookies in each profile's own folder, so everything in one profile shares one set. Two Vimeo accounts used in the same profile therefore take turns: the login link sends an already logged-in visitor to the homepage, so you log out of one account before the other can log in.

Two further points follow. Clearing cookies in a profile to fix a different problem can sign you out of the other sites in it as well. And Vimeo's Terms say that on a computer other people can use, you must log out after each session. Giving each account its own profile removes the clash; the profiles guide has the steps, and what a browser profile is explains the idea. A private window or a VPN is a different tool with a different job, as the comparison guide explains.

Step by step: getting back into an account

  1. Stop retrying. If the account is locked, wait about 15 minutes before the next attempt.
  2. Log out of any Vimeo account in that browser profile. Vimeo says the Forgot your password link works only when you are logged out of every Vimeo account. Then enter the email address on the account.
  3. Check the right mailbox. The reset goes only to the primary login email. Look in spam, and if you asked more than once, use only the newest email.
  4. If the mailbox is gone, use the account access form linked from Vimeo's troubleshooting page. Paid accounts can be verified with payment details; Vimeo says it cannot restore a free account with no payment history when ownership cannot be proved.
  5. For 2FA, request a new code. With an authenticator app, the login screen lets you ask for a code by email instead. Allow Vimeo's sender in your mail program.
  6. Contact Vimeo if it still fails, using the contact link on the page that matches your problem.

What if someone else got in, or the account was deactivated?

Vimeo recommends resetting your password if you believe someone accessed your account without permission, and to contact it if you cannot reset it or the email address was changed without you. The Terms go further: if you become aware of unauthorised access, you must change your password and notify Vimeo immediately.

For a deactivated or removed account, the Guidelines say that if you believe Vimeo made a mistake you may complete the Appeals Form, identify what was removed and explain why you think the decision is wrong. Vimeo aims to reply within 30 days where practicable, and reserves the right to deny appeals filed 30 days after content removal or 60 days after account removal. It also says that if an account is permanently removed, you may not create a new account.

Team and Enterprise sign-ins

  • Session duration. The Help Center says an Admin or Owner can require team members to log in again after a set number of minutes, hours or days, or after inactivity.
  • Forced logout. An Admin or Owner can force themselves and all team members to log out; active sessions end after a few minutes.
  • SSO. If your organisation has enabled it, you may need to log in with SSO. With single logout enabled, logging out of the identity provider also logs members out of Vimeo.
  • Support route. For a Workspace access error that persists, Vimeo asks you to contact Support with the affected email address and the steps you tried.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a Windows and macOS desktop app for managing browser profiles in bulk. Since each profile has its own cookies, local data and browser settings, a Vimeo login in one profile does not push another profile's session out. That answers the profile clash described above and nothing else: lockouts, reset emails, codes and Vimeo's other checks work the same, and ADSSPEED promises nothing about how Vimeo treats an account. Profile data is stored on your own computer. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Vimeo.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Vimeo keep logging me out?

The Help Center pages read describe no fixed timer for personal accounts. Documented causes are a temporary lock after repeated wrong passwords, a login that cannot finish because a reset email or 2FA code does not arrive, and, on Enterprise teams, an admin-set session duration or forced logout. Deleted cookies can also sign you out of sites.

How long is a Vimeo account locked after wrong passwords?

Vimeo's pages say the lock clears after about 15 minutes. They also say that continuing to try while the account is blocked restarts the 15-minute wait each time, and that resetting the password does not speed things up. If the message persists after 15 minutes, contact Vimeo.

How do I access my Vimeo account if I can't log in?

Use Forgot your password while logged out of any Vimeo account, with the email address on the account, and open only the most recent reset email. If you no longer have that mailbox, Vimeo's account access form can change the login email once you prove the account is yours, for example with payment details.

Why am I not receiving the Vimeo two-factor code?

Vimeo says your email program may have marked its messages as spam or may not be accepting them, and suggests allowing @vimeo.com as a safe sender and then requesting a new code. If the issue persists, contact Vimeo. Two-factor authentication can use an email code or an authenticator app.

Why is my Vimeo account suspended or deactivated?

Vimeo's help page says a deactivated account may have breached the Terms of Service or the Vimeo Guidelines, and suggests searching your inbox for Vimeo's notification email. The Guidelines let you appeal through the Appeals Form, and Vimeo aims to reply within 30 days where practicable.

How do I sign out of Vimeo?

On vimeo.com hover over your profile icon at the top right and choose Log out at the bottom of the menu. In the mobile app scroll down to find Log out. Enterprise team accounts use the dropdown next to the profile icon and team name, where Log out is the last item.

Can a team admin log everyone out of Vimeo?

On Enterprise, yes. Vimeo says an Admin or Owner can control session duration for all team members and can force everyone to log out, which ends active sessions after a few minutes. If SSO single logout is enabled, members are logged out as soon as they log out of the identity provider.
