Goodreads Author Account for a Team or Publisher: Who Logs In and Who Can Help

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 5 min read

Can a team or publisher share a Goodreads author account?

The pages read describe no way for a team to share one, so treat every author profile as belonging to one person's login. According to the Author Program page (read 3 October 2026), you apply from your own account and, once approved, your login and password stay the same. None of the pages read describes team seats, shared logins or delegated access for author profiles.

The Terms of Use ask you to keep your password private and to limit who can reach your account, and they make you answerable for everything done under it. That is why this guide does not suggest sharing a password. What does exist are features with roles of their own, covered below.

How does the Author Program tie an author profile to a login?

The Author Program page lists these steps, written for an author applying in their own name:

  1. Sign in or create an account, then search for your most popular book by ISBN, ASIN or title.
  2. On the book page, click your author name and scroll to the bottom of your author profile page.
  3. Click Is this you? Let us know! and submit the application.
  4. Wait for the email. The page says approvals are sent within 2 business days.

According to the same page, joining is free for any author anywhere in the world and needs a published or soon-to-be published book that Goodreads has in its database. After approval, the Author Program resources page describes an Author Dashboard where you find your stats, Ask the Author questions and the giveaways you have listed. The Author Guidelines add that the program is meant to be used in a professional capacity.

Which Goodreads tools have roles for more than one person?

ToolWho actsWhat the pages read say about several people

On groups, the Group Moderator Guidelines say you can add and remove moderators on the members page, and that every moderator has full moderator powers. Only the group's creator can delete the group, so the creator account is the one to keep with someone who stays.

Which rules apply to author, brand and agency activity?

These come from the Author Guidelines and the Rating and Review Guidelines, and they bind whoever is typing, whether the author, a colleague or an agency:

  • Contacting members who have shelved your book is treated as spam, and mass friend requests are also listed as rule-breaking.
  • Joining several groups only to post about your own book is not permitted.
  • You may not require a review in exchange for something or try to influence a review, and paid or incentivised reviews are prohibited.
  • The Review Guidelines list undisclosed commercial or paid reviews, and ratings that artificially push an average up or down, among the things that can lead to removal.
  • Each person and household gets one giveaway entry, and the Giveaway Terms list tampering with a giveaway among the grounds for disqualification.
  • The Terms of Use bar impersonating a person or organisation and using a false email address.

How do you hand over and off-board without sharing a password?

  1. Decide who owns each login. For an author profile it should be the author, with a mailbox that belongs to them or to the business and not to a temporary helper.
  2. Let colleagues work through documented roles. In a group, add each helper as a moderator from the members page so they act from their own Goodreads account.
  3. Give people tasks instead of logins: they prepare text and plans, and the account owner posts or approves.
  4. Note who holds the Kindle Direct Publishing connection if you run Kindle giveaways, because the page says authors need to connect their KDP accounts.
  5. When someone leaves, remove them as moderator on the members page, then check the moderator list, since moderators can add others.
  6. If a helper ever had the password, start Password assistance for that account and report any unauthorised use to Goodreads without delay, as the Terms ask.

Where ADSSPEED fits

Agencies and teams that look after several Goodreads logins can use ADSSPEED, a desktop app for Windows and macOS, to keep each account in its own browser profile with its own cookies, local data and browser settings. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and the data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not add team seats to Goodreads: each person should still work only through accounts they own or are authorised to manage. See installing ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Goodreads.
