Can You Stay Logged In to Two WeChat Accounts at Once on One Computer?

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 5 min read

Can you run two WeChat accounts on one computer at the same time?

Not side by side, as far as WeChat's own pages describe. According to WeChat's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), WeChat for Windows or Mac signs in with a QR code and offers Switch Account on its login page, so you change accounts instead of opening two together.

The Help Center gives these steps for the desktop app:

  1. Download the app from www.wechat.com and open it.
  2. On your phone, open WeChat, tap + at the top right, choose Scan, scan the QR code on the computer and confirm the login.
  3. To use a different account, select Switch Account on the login page.
  4. Scan the new QR code with the phone that holds the other account and confirm again.

The same page adds one limit: the same account cannot be signed in to Web WeChat and to WeChat for Windows or Mac at the same time. An older page on help.wechat.com says you cannot sign in to the desktop app without also being logged in on your phone, so the phone that holds the account takes part in every sign-in.

Which WeChat surface allows what?

Where you sign inWhat the official pages sayWhat it means for a second account
WeChat for Windows or MacQR sign-in confirmed on the phone; Switch Account on the login pageChange accounts and scan again each time
Web WeChat (web.wechat.com)Scan to log in on the phone; the page says it needs browser cookies; it has its own Switch Account linkNot with the same account that is on the desktop app
Phone appMe > Settings > Switch Account > +Add and switch accounts on one phone
One phone plus other devicesPhone together with the web version, Windows or iPadSigning in on another phone, or another type of tablet, logs the current phone out

The last row combines the English Help Center with a Traditional Chinese support page from Tencent, which spells out the other-phone case. Because Web WeChat keeps its sign-in in browser cookies, a browser profile is the ordinary way to give each web sign-in its own space; the profiles article has the steps.

One mobile number, one account

The Help Center says each phone number can sign up for only one WeChat or Weixin account, and that a number not linked to any account can be used for a new registration. To add another account on a phone that already has one, its step-by-step guide describes this path:

  1. Go to Me > Settings > Log Out. The guide says this is required, and that your chat history is not lost and comes back when you log in to that account again.
  2. On the login screen, tap More > Sign up for a New Account.
  3. Tap Sign up via phone number, choose the country or region code, enter the mobile number and set a password.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish.

Two more facts shape any plan for several accounts. WeChat does not merge accounts: the Help Center says each account counts as a unique ID for its user. And WeChat and Weixin are different apps run by different companies in the Tencent group, with the mobile number deciding which one you have: numbers outside mainland China belong to WeChat, mainland numbers to Weixin, and each has its own terms. To check which you use, look at the top of the Chat tab, which shows either WeChat or Weixin (app version 8.0.17 or later).

What do the official pages leave out?

  • Two copies of the desktop app. None of the pages checked for this guide documents opening two copies of WeChat for Windows or Mac at once. The pages describe switching and scanning again.
  • Add-ons that promise "multi-open" clients. WeChat does not document them, and its rules point the other way. Tencent's Standards of Weixin Account Usage (effective 22 November 2024) name software or plug-ins that allow multiple Weixin logins among common violations, and they forbid signing in through unauthorised third-party software. Those standards are written for Weixin accounts; WeChat's Acceptable Use Policy separately bars unauthorised third-party software that modifies or interferes with the app. The Help Center adds that unofficial versions and plug-ins can stop an unblock request and that continued use may lead to a permanent block.
  • Business use. For a brand or a team, WeChat's route is roles on an Official Account or in WeCom, not extra copies of the app; see the business article.

What if switching or signing in does not work?

  • A prompt says the account is already logged in on another device. The Help Center's steps are to log out and log in again, log out of the previous device before signing in elsewhere, power the phone off for 5 to 10 minutes, close security apps and update WeChat. More in why WeChat logs you out or asks to verify.
  • The QR code expired. Web WeChat shows a QR code expired message with a refresh link. Refresh it and scan again.
  • Web WeChat will not work. Its sign-in page says it requires browser cookies to let you log in, so check that your browser allows them.
  • A restriction or verification notice appears. Follow the on-screen steps in the phone app and use the Help Center form if they fail, as the logout article explains.

Where ADSSPEED fits

For the browser pages around WeChat that you are entitled to manage, ADSSPEED keeps each sign-in apart. It is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles; every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so one sign-in does not sign another out. A proxy can be set per profile, and profile data stays on your own computer. It does not add a second copy of the WeChat desktop app, and it does not change WeChat's rules. Use it only for accounts you own or are authorised to manage. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with WeChat.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple WeChat accounts?

WeChat's Help Center says each phone number can sign up for only one WeChat or Weixin account, so every account needs its own number. WeChat's Terms of Service do not state how many accounts one person may hold, but the Acceptable Use Policy prohibits creating false accounts or multiple accounts for misuse. The rules article has the details.

How do I switch accounts on WeChat?

On the phone, the Help Center gives the path Me, Settings, Switch Account, then +, and you log in with a different account. On WeChat for Windows or Mac, select Switch Account on the login page and scan the new QR code with the phone that holds the other account.

Can WeChat have two accounts with the same phone number?

No. According to the Help Center (read 3 October 2026), a phone number can sign up for only one WeChat or Weixin account, and a number that is not linked to any account can be used for a new registration. The Help Center also says two accounts cannot be merged.

Can I use WeChat on my computer?

Yes. WeChat offers WeChat for Windows and Mac, which you sign in to by scanning a QR code with your phone, and Web WeChat at web.wechat.com, which also starts with a QR scan and needs browser cookies. The same account cannot be on Web WeChat and the Windows or Mac app together.

Can I log in to WeChat on my computer without my phone?

The pages checked for this guide describe only phone-confirmed sign-in for the desktop app: you scan a QR code or confirm on the phone. An older page on help.wechat.com says a user cannot sign in to WeChat for Windows or Mac without also being logged in on the phone.

Can I stay logged in on a phone and a computer at the same time?

Yes, according to the Help Center, simultaneous login is supported on one phone together with the web version, Windows or iPad. Signing in on another phone, or another type of tablet, logs the account out of the current phone, so log out of the earlier device first.
