How to Keep Strava Accounts Apart on One PC With Browser Profiles
Can browser profiles keep Strava sign-ins apart on one PC?
Yes, for sign-ins and saved data. Chrome Help (read 3 October 2026) says profiles keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate, and it names keeping different accounts, such as work and personal, apart as a use. Chromium's documentation says the user data directory holds profile data such as history, bookmarks and cookies, with each profile in a subdirectory. Strava's Cookie Policy says it relies on essential cookies to confirm who is signed in and to keep you signed in according to your preferences, so a Strava sign-in made inside one profile lives in that profile's cookies.
A profile does not turn one computer into several, and it does not change what Strava allows. The Terms ask for one personal account per person, so the point of a profile here is to keep different people's accounts, or an account you are merging, from getting in each other's way.
What does a profile separate, and what does it leave alone?
| Item | Separate per profile? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Strava sign-in (cookies) | Yes | Strava says essential cookies keep you logged in; Chromium lists cookies as profile data |
| Bookmarks, history, saved passwords | Yes | Named on Chrome Help's profile page |
| Other browser settings | Yes | Same page |
| The computer, its connection and your operating-system account | No | Every profile runs on the same machine |
| Protection from people at your keyboard | No | Chrome Help warns that anyone with your device can switch profiles |
| Which Strava account you act as | Not a profile matter | It is whichever account you signed in to inside that profile |
Other browsers do this differently. Firefox offers Containers, which Mozilla's design page presents as long-lived, lightweight contexts that keep sites isolated from one another, each with its own cookies, localStorage, IndexedDB and caches, and it gives work and personal accounts side by side in one window as an example. For profile steps in Edge or Firefox, follow each browser's own current help page; this guide gives the Chrome steps. Strava's browser page (read 3 October 2026) lists Firefox and Chrome for Windows, and Safari, Firefox and Chrome for Mac.
How do you set up one profile per person?
- Plan the names first. One line per person, for example
Strava - SamandStrava - Lee. - Open Chrome, select Profile at the top right, then choose Add Chrome profile.
- Choose a name, photo and color scheme. Give each person their own color so you can tell the profiles apart at a glance.
- Decide about Chrome sign-in. Chrome Help notes that signing in to Chrome with a Google Account renames the profile after that account and lets Chrome keep bookmarks, passwords and settings in the account for your other devices. Think before signing someone else's profile in to your own Google Account.
- Open strava.com inside the profile and sign in with that person's own email, using a password or a one-time code.
- Move between profiles with the profile icon, and check the icon and the name on the Strava page before you upload or edit anything.
- Test once. The five-minute test in what a browser profile is shows that two profiles keep their own sign-ins.
Keep each profile's extension list short. When a login fails, Strava's page on supported browsers lists disabling extensions and ad or tracking blockers temporarily among its troubleshooting steps, so fewer of them means fewer suspects.
How should you name, hand over and back up profiles?
| Practice | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Naming | Person, role, then account, with one color per person | You spot the wrong profile before you click |
| Hand-over | Never pass on a signed-in profile or a password. For a club, make the new person an admin on their own account | The Terms ask you not to share your account, and club roles belong to individual accounts |
| Retiring a profile | Remove it only after the work has been handed over | Chrome Help says removal erases the profile's bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings from the computer |
| Recovery details | Keep each account's email current and readable by its owner | Strava's password recovery and one-time codes are email-based |
| Data backup | Use Strava's data export on the website, under Settings and My Account, which sends an email with a download link | The Help Center says export is only available on the website |
| Profile folders | If you copy one, treat the copy like a password | Chromium lists cookies among profile data; the default Windows location is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data |
What if Strava misbehaves inside a profile?
- Check the profile icon. Are you in the profile you meant, and the Strava account you meant?
- Sign out and back in. If you use one-time codes, remember a code is valid for 5 minutes.
- Disable extensions and ad or tracking blockers in that profile for now, then log in, as the Help Center advises.
- Clear cache and cookies in that profile. Chrome Help gives the path: More, Delete browsing data, a time range, Cookies and other site data, Delete data. It warns this may sign you out of sites that remember you.
- Try a browser on Strava's supported list, or a fresh profile, to see whether the problem follows the profile.
- Wait. The login-error page says to wait one hour, and 24 hours if nothing else has worked.
- Contact Support and name the browsers and extensions you use. The login errors guide covers one-time codes, security emails and appeals.
When do ordinary profiles stop being enough?
| Sign | What helps |
|---|---|
| The profile list no longer fits in a spreadsheet or in your head | Opening, stopping and organising profiles in bulk |
| Accounts need their own network settings | A proxy per profile; see proxy types explained |
| You are weighing private windows, VPNs and profiles | The comparison of incognito, VPNs and profiles |
None of these changes Strava's rules, and none replaces each person's own account.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles in one place. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so the accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, a proxy can be set per profile and assigned to many profiles in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. See how to install ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Strava.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have 2 Strava accounts on one computer?
Two people can, each in their own browser profile. Strava's Terms ask for one personal account per person, so this is for different people's accounts, or for an account you are merging, and not for a second account of your own. Strava itself describes no account switcher.
Can you have Strava on two devices?
Strava's change-email page speaks of several mobile devices and web browsers and recommends logging out of all of them after an email change, which indicates one account can be signed in in more than one place. The pages read for this guide state no device limit.
Why does Strava keep logging me out in my browser profile?
Strava says essential cookies keep you logged in, so cleared cookies, a private window or a cleaning tool end the session. Extensions and ad blockers can also interfere. The Help Center advises disabling them temporarily, clearing cache and cookies, and trying a supported browser.
Do Strava login problems come from my browser profile?
Sometimes. The login-error page lists a typo, a wrong one-time code, too many login requests or extensions. Check the profile first, then follow the page's steps: wait an hour, clear history and cache, try another browser, and wait 24 hours if needed.
Can other people on my PC open my Chrome profiles?
Yes. Chrome Help warns that if someone has your device, they can switch to any other Chrome profile on it. A profile organises data and is not a lock, so use separate operating-system accounts when people must not see each other's browsing.
Does Strava have a desktop app I can use instead?
The Help Center says you can use Strava as a mobile app or on the web. The pages read describe no Windows or macOS desktop app, so on a PC the website in a supported browser is what these profiles organise.
