Why Does Snapchat Log Me Out or Ask for a Verification Code? Suspicious Login Explained
Why does Snapchat log you out or ask for a code?
Snapchat's pages give a short list of causes rather than one rule: a new or unrecognised device, two-factor authentication (2FA), a second Snapchat for Web login on another computer, too many attempts, a locked account or a device ban. They do not say how long a login normally lasts or list every trigger for a check, so this guide covers only what is stated. The pages were read on 3 October 2026 and show no update date.
Causes and what Snapchat's pages suggest
| What you see | What Snapchat's pages say | What they suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Signed out of Snapchat for Web | Only one computer at a time; a login on another computer logs out the previous one | Decide which computer holds the web session and sign in there again |
| A code when you log in | With 2FA on you are always asked for a Login Code. Otherwise it is an extra step, sent to the phone number or email on the account | Enter the code; the page also suggests trying a device or Wi-Fi network you have used before with this account |
| A code or sign-in email you did not request | Someone used your password to try to sign in on a device Snapchat does not recognise, and the attempt was blocked | Follow the steps in the next section |
| Having to continually log in | One of twelve listed signs of a compromised account | Change your password at accounts.snapchat.com, check your email and mobile details |
The Too many requests error | Too many SMS codes or log-in attempts in a short window | Wait a few minutes (login-code page) or 24 hours (contact-verification page) |
| Network blocked | A network can be blocked for spam, other prohibited use or a VPN; someone else on your connection may be the cause | Follow the Community Guidelines, switch Wi-Fi or use mobile data, turn off a VPN |
On extra codes, the Help Center says the step is "usually if you're logging in from a new or unrecognized device". The same page suggests trying a device or Wi-Fi network you have used before with this account. That is a hint about why the check appears, not a way to skip it. The network page names VPNs and does not mention proxies, so it gives no guidance on them. If you use a proxy or similar tool, test without it, as the page does for VPNs.
Reading the login error codes
| Code | Meaning on Snapchat's page | Official next step |
|---|---|---|
| SS01, SS03, SS08 | Access temporarily disabled after repeated failed attempts, too many sign-ups in a short period, or suspicious activity or a violation | Check your login details, wait 48 hours, try again |
| SS02 | Temporarily banned from logging in to that account on that device after repeated failed attempts | Wait before trying again on that device |
| SS04 | The account is locked | For a temporary lock go to accounts.snapchat.com and select Unlock |
| SS06, SS18 | Device banned for abuse or repeated violations of the Community Guidelines | Support cannot unban it; an in-app appeal may be possible if eligible |
| SS07 | Device banned because too many accounts have been associated with it | Support cannot unban it |
| SS10 | The device does not meet Snapchat's integrity requirements | The page suggests trying a different device |
| C13A, C14A, C14B, C16A, SS14A-D01, SS14A-D02 | Snapchat cannot complete the log in, possibly because of poor connectivity | Check your connection; the page suggests mobile data instead of Wi-Fi |
A separate page explains that a device ban applies to the phone or tablet, not just one account. It says Snapchat cannot share what triggered a ban and in most cases does not unban a device. The pages read describe these bans for phones and tablets and do not explain how they apply to a computer.
If you got a code or sign-in email you did not ask for
- Do not give the code to anyone. Snapchat states that it does not email or text people to ask for their password or 2FA codes.
- Change or reset your password. In the app open Settings and tap Password; if you cannot sign in, use forgot password for the phone or email recovery flow.
- Check the devices signed in to the account in Session Management and remove any you do not recognise. With 2FA on, Forget Devices (Settings, My Account, Two-Factor Authentication) unlinks a device and logs you out on it.
- Create a passkey, and set up 2FA with SMS or an authenticator app.
- If you think the account is compromised, follow Snapchat's compromised-account page: change the password, confirm the email and mobile number, and use the Support Bot if you cannot get in.
If the code never arrives, or goes to an old number
- Email codes: wait a few minutes and check spam or junk.
- SMS codes: wait, request a new code, and check reception and that SMS from unknown senders is not blocked.
- Lost phone with 2FA on: enter your username and password, tap Log In, then give the recovery code if you created one (Settings, My Account, Two-Factor Authentication, Recovery Code, Generate Code). Logging in with it turns 2FA off, so set it up again.
- Old number: carriers can reassign numbers. Snapchat recommends adding a passkey or an email address as a second check. Once you can sign in, the number can be changed under Settings, then My Account.
If the account is locked or the device is banned
Snapchat lists these reasons for a lock: behaviour against its Community Guidelines or Terms, suspicious activity such as excessive friend requests in a short time, a possible compromise, a login from a banned device, and use of a third-party app, tweak or plugin.
- For a temporary lock, go to accounts.snapchat.com and select Unlock, or try logging back in through the app.
- If the lock is eligible for appeal, open the app, try to log in and tap Appeal Decision. The locked-account page says review may take up to 30 days; the appeals page says Snapchat aims to reply within two weeks.
- The appeals page and the Help Center page on Community Guidelines locks both say that going outside the approved process will not speed anything up. A permanent lock cannot be undone with Unlock.
- For a lock caused by a third-party app, the app message or the email on the account shows how long it lasts. Snapchat says it cannot unlock such an account.
Do not open a replacement account. Snapchat says people whose accounts were terminated may not create new ones; see what the rules say. Several accounts on one computer are covered in the multi-login guide, and what a browser profile is explains why each account's browser data stays separate.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so each account you manage can stay signed in in its own profile without signing the others out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED cannot stop Snapchat from asking for a code, locking an account or banning a device; those decisions are Snapchat's. Use it only with accounts you own or are authorised to manage. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Snapchat.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Snapchat keep logging me out?
Snapchat's pages name several causes. On Snapchat for Web, a login on another computer logs out the previous one. Forgetting a linked device logs you out on it. Having to continually log in is also listed as a sign of a compromised account, so if you did not cause the sign-outs, follow the compromised-account steps.
What does a Snapchat suspicious login code mean?
A login code you did not request means someone used your password to try to sign in on a device Snapchat does not recognise, and Snapchat blocked the attempt by asking for extra verification. Change your password, check your devices, add a passkey and set up 2FA. Do not give the code to anyone.
Why is my Snapchat verification code not working or not arriving?
The Help Center says to wait a few minutes and ask for a new code, check spam for email codes, and make sure your phone has reception and does not block SMS from unknown senders. Too many SMS requests in a short window can cause a temporary block. If you lost your phone, try your recovery code.
What if my Snapchat verification code goes to an old number?
Snapchat warns that an old number may be reassigned by the carrier to someone else, who could try to use it to log in to your account. It recommends adding a passkey or an email address as a second check. When you can sign in, you can change the number under My Account in Settings.
How do I log out of all devices on Snapchat?
Open Session Management: on a computer go to accounts.snapchat.com, or in the app open Settings, My Account, then Session Management. The pages describe logging out one device or browser at a time next to each entry. The list shows active sessions only, not logins saved on devices.
Why is my Snapchat account locked and how do I appeal?
Snapchat lists reasons such as behaviour against its Community Guidelines or Terms, suspicious activity, a possible compromise, a login from a banned device or a third-party app. If the lock is eligible, open the app, try to log in and tap Appeal Decision. One page says review can take up to 30 days, another says Snapchat aims for two weeks.
