Can You Be Logged In to Two Medium Accounts at Once on One Computer?
Can you be logged in to two Medium accounts at once on one computer?
Not in one browser profile, going by Medium's own instructions. According to Medium's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), you move to another account by signing out of the current one and signing in to the other, and the pages read for this guide describe no account switcher for the website. Two accounts can stay open side by side only when each one sits in its own browser profile or its own browser.
On a computer, Medium is a website. The Help Center lists the two most recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows and macOS for the full experience, logging in included, and its page on Medium apps names only the App Store and Google Play. Another page says the interface is currently English only.
How does signing in to Medium work?
There is no password to remember. The Help Center says "Medium does not support passwords at this time." Each account is reached through one of the routes below, so note which one you used for which account.
| Route | What the Help Center says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Email link | Choose Sign in with email, enter the address, click Continue, then click Sign in to Medium in the email. The link expires after two hours and works once, and a 5-digit code can be sent instead | Request it for the address on the account you want |
| The address under Your email must be the @gmail.com address of the Google account, and no other Google account may be connected | The Google account you pick at the prompt must be that one | |
| Apple | The Apple ID email must match the Medium email, and you must choose Share My Email | Hiding your email stops you signing in to an existing account |
| Facebook or X | Connect it first in Settings, on the Security and apps tab | A Facebook Page cannot be connected |
Because no Medium password protects the account, whoever controls the mailbox or the connected login controls the account. Keep that in mind before you hand a computer or a profile to someone else, and see the team access guide for adding people without sharing a sign-in.
How do you switch from one Medium account to another?
These are the Help Center's steps for the website:
- On the Medium homepage, click your profile picture, then Sign out.
- Click Sign in in the top-right corner and choose Sign in with email.
- Enter the address of the account you want and click Continue.
- Open the email and click Sign in to Medium within two hours. If a link will not work for you, the prompt also offers a 5-digit code by email.
- If you use Google or Apple instead, choose the one whose address matches that Medium account.
This is switching, not side-by-side use: the first account leaves that browser as soon as you sign out, and each switch by email needs a new link.
What goes wrong when one person has several Medium accounts?
- Accidental duplicates. The Help Center notes that accidental duplicate accounts are common. A duplicate can appear when you sign in with an email address or social account that is not tied to your original account. Signs include becoming a member yet lacking members-only content, or losing sight of your stories and drafts.
- The membership sits on the other account. If you paid and still cannot read member-only stories, the Help Center suggests searching all your inboxes for the membership confirmation email, then signing out and signing in with that address.
- No merging. Medium says it has no way, for now, to merge accounts or carry their data across. Its alternative is to move what you need by hand, such as bookmarks, follows and drafts (copy and paste), then delete the inactive account. If one account holds a membership, the page suggests keeping that one.
- Hidden Apple email. Sign in with Apple fails against an existing account when the email is hidden. Share your email instead.
Which options exist for two accounts on one PC?
| Option | What you get | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Sign out and sign in again | One account at a time, no setup | A new email link, valid for two hours, for every switch |
| Two different browsers | Two accounts open together | You must keep track of which browser holds which account |
| One browser profile per account | Several accounts open together; Chrome Help says profiles keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate | You must open the right profile each time; see the profiles guide |
| A Publication | Several people write under one name, each with their own account | For teams, not for one person's second login |
| The Medium phone app | Medium on a phone, signed in separately from the computer | The Help Center lists iOS and Android only, so it does not help on a PC |
A profile separates data on your computer, not the computer itself or its connection. What a browser profile is explains the idea, and the comparison guide covers how private windows and VPNs differ.
What if it still fails?
- The email never arrives. Check "All Mail" and spam, confirm the address under Settings, and add noreply@medium.com to your safe senders. The Help Center also suggests asking your IT team or ISP whether the mail server blocks it.
- The link says it has expired or been used. Start again from Sign in with email to get a fresh link.
- You keep getting signed out. Read why Medium keeps logging you out.
- Nothing helps. Use Submit a request in the Help Center. Medium says it does not provide phone support.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data is kept on your own computer. It does not change what Medium allows, and you still sign in to each account the way the Help Center describes. Setup is in installing ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Medium.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have two Medium accounts?
The Help Center pages on this topic deal with accidental duplicates: they explain how to sort them out and say Medium does not merge accounts. A March 2024 post on Medium's official blog says multiple memberships are allowed, but that using several accounts to engage with your own stories is not.
Can you be logged in to two Medium accounts at the same time?
In one browser profile, the Help Center tells you to sign out of the current account before signing in to another, and the pages read describe no account switcher. Two accounts can stay signed in at once only when each sits in its own browser profile or browser, because each keeps its own cookies.
How do I sign in to Medium with email?
On the Medium homepage click Sign in at the top right, choose Sign in with email, enter your address and click Continue, then open the email and click Sign in to Medium. According to the Help Center the link expires after two hours and works once, and a 5-digit code can be requested instead.
Does Medium have passwords?
No. The Help Center says Medium does not support passwords at this time. You sign in with an emailed link or code, or with a Facebook, X, Google or Apple account that is connected to your Medium account.
Why did I end up with a second Medium account by accident?
The Help Center says a duplicate can appear when you sign in with an email address or social account that is not associated with your original account. Medium does not merge accounts or move data, so you copy what you need across by hand and delete the account you no longer use.
I upgraded to a Medium membership but cannot read member-only stories. Why?
The Help Center points to the account: you may be signed in to a different one from the account that holds the membership. Search your inboxes for the membership confirmation email, then sign out and sign in with that address.
Is there a Medium desktop app for Windows or Mac?
The Help Center page on Medium apps lists the App Store and Google Play only and describes no Windows or macOS app. On a computer you use the website; the Help Center lists the two latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows and macOS.
