Imgur Rules for Multiple Accounts: Is a Second Account Allowed?

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Can you have two Imgur accounts?

The pages read for this guide set no number. According to Imgur's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (read 3 October 2026), neither states how many accounts one person may have. The Community Rules name two uses of extra accounts as prohibited. One is "Repeatedly creating multiple accounts to evade punishment or avoid restrictions"; the other is vote manipulation that uses several accounts.

That is all the three documents say about several accounts. The text read does not say a second account is banned in itself, and silence on a number is not permission for the behaviours the Rules do name. The Terms page shows an effective date of 2 October 2026, the Privacy Policy page shows 22 January 2024 for its privacy-rights section, and the Rules page shows no date, so re-read the live pages before relying on this summary. If you need certainty about one particular case, ask Imgur through its help site.

Which behaviours do the Rules and Terms name?

The behaviours that touch several accounts, automation or identity make a short list. Each row comes from the page shown in the last column.

BehaviourWhat the page saysPage
Opening accounts again and again to get round a penaltyListed among the behaviours Imgur does not welcome, under its rule on spam and prohibited behaviourRules
Vote manipulationPushing vote scores up or down with several accounts, voting services or other software is listedRules
Scripts or botsThose that behave harmfully, or without being open about it, are listedRules
Data mining, robots, scrapingThe Terms say not to use them in connection with the service, including for AI or machine-learning purposesTerms
SpamThe list covers clickbait, affiliate links, rapid-fire posting and unapproved commercial advertising for dubious products or servicesRules
ImpersonationThe Terms say not to impersonate someone else; the Rules list false impersonationTerms, Rules

From a warning to a ban: what the Rules lay out

StageWhat the page says
Content breaks a ruleIt is removed and the original poster is warned about the removal; content may also be marked Mature or have its visibility restricted
Repeated breaches of the good-sharing practicesMay bring a warning on the account
Time passesWarnings fade over time
Several breaches in a short timeWarnings add up, which could lead to a 24-hour suspension and then a ban
Serious violationsIllegal content and content that condones violence, for example, may bring a ban at once, with no earlier warning
An account is bannedThe account's content may be deleted, the user may lose access to Imgur, and websites that hotlink to Imgur against the Terms may be blocked
Automated toolsSome actions are applied automatically, including banning accounts detected as spam and suspending or banning accounts that reach the warning limit
Any breach of the Terms or the RulesMay lead to removal of content or of a user account from the app
Copyright repeat infringersThe Terms say Imgur will block or remove the person's images and terminate any accounts the person has with it

The Rules say Imgur enforces them through human moderation as well as those automated tools, and that moderators consider context and intent. They also let you appeal a decision you think was wrong, at no charge, through an Appeal Form. The login-problem guide walks through the appeal and through what the Privacy Policy says about phone-number verification.

How do the rules apply when you run more than one account?

The pages never walk through these situations, so the middle column is a plain reading of the text, not a statement from Imgur.

SituationHow the pages readThe cleaner route
An account is suspended or bannedA new account opened to carry on posting is what the evasion rule is aimed at, and the Privacy Policy says a banned account's phone-number hash is banned tooWait for a suspension to end, or appeal
You vote on your own posts from another accountVote manipulation with several accounts is listedDo not vote with accounts you control to move scores
A personal account plus one for a project or brandThe pages state no limit. The Rules' good-sharing section says Imgurians expect the poster to be explicit about any connection to what they post, and calls hiding that relationship a common feature of bad sharingKeep each account's purpose honest and say how you are connected to the content
A tool that posts or votes across accountsThe Terms bar robots, scraping and data mining; the Rules name scripts or bots that behave harmfully or without being open about itPost and vote by hand
An account that poses as someone elseThe Terms and the Rules both rule out impersonationUse your own identity, or your organisation's genuine one

How do you check a plan with two accounts against the Rules?

  1. Write down what each account is for. Two accounts with honest, separate purposes, such as a personal one and one for a project you run, are not among the behaviours the Rules name.
  2. Confirm you own, or are authorised to manage, both.
  3. Run through the behaviours table. Is either account used to get round a warning, suspension or ban? Does one vote for the other? Does a script or bot act for either? Does either pose as someone else?
  4. Say how you are connected to what you post when it matters, for example a brand or a project you work for.
  5. Keep each account in its own browser profile so you always know which one you are acting as. Chrome Help says profiles keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate; see what a browser profile is and the profiles guide.
  6. If you are still unsure, stop and ask Imgur through its help site before you start.

Treat a warning, a suspension or a ban as something to appeal, not to work around, and re-read the Rules and the Terms before large changes. The Terms say Imgur may revise them from time to time without notice.

What if the pages do not answer your question?

The pages read are silent on several questions: how many accounts one person may hold, whether people may share one login, whether a ban on one account reaches another, how long a ban lasts and how long an appeal takes. On sharing, the Privacy Policy only puts the job of keeping unauthorised people out of your account on you.

  • A question the pages do not answer. Ask through Imgur's help site rather than guessing, and describe the case.
  • The appeal brings no reply. The Rules give no response time, so do not fill the gap with a new account.
  • You want the sign-in side of two accounts. Read the multi-login guide.

Where ADSSPEED fits

No tool, ADSSPEED included, can make a prohibited use of a second account acceptable, and ADSSPEED does not alter Imgur's Rules. What it does is manage many browser profiles in a desktop app for Windows and macOS. Each profile has its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you own or are authorised to manage can stay signed in at the same time without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and their data stays on your own computer. Installation is covered in installing ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Imgur.

Frequently asked questions

Is a second Imgur account allowed at all?

The Terms of Service and Privacy Policy pages read for this guide state no limit. The Community Rules prohibit opening accounts again and again to get round a punishment or restriction, and manipulating votes with several accounts. They do not say a second account is banned in itself; ask Imgur if you need certainty.

Is it against the rules to vote from two Imgur accounts?

The Rules list vote manipulation, which they describe as pushing vote scores up or down with several accounts, voting services or other software. Using accounts you control to push a score up or down fits that description.

Can I open a new Imgur account if mine is banned or suspended?

No. The Rules treat opening accounts again and again to get round a punishment or restriction as prohibited, so a new account is not a way out of a suspension or ban. The route they give is an appeal through the Appeal Form, which they say costs nothing.

If one of my Imgur accounts is banned, what happens to my other accounts?

The pages read do not say how a ban on one account affects another. The Rules say a ban may also cost the user access to Imgur, and the Terms say a copyright repeat infringer's accounts with Imgur are terminated. Appeal if you think the decision was wrong.

Can I use bots or scripts across several Imgur accounts?

The Terms say not to use data mining, robots, scraping or similar extraction methods, including for AI or machine-learning purposes, and the Rules name scripts or bots that behave harmfully or without being open about it. Ask Imgur before automating anything, because the pages offer no automation how-to.

Can an Imgur account pose as another person or company?

No. The Terms say not to impersonate someone else and the Rules list false impersonation. An account for your own brand or project is different from posing as another person, and the Rules also expect posters to be open about how they are connected to what they post.
